“My burden is my purpose. Without it, I wouldn’t be.” ― Solange nicole

My name “Tusuubira” has a story. This is a story a baby born in a community where people living with sickle cell are stigmatized and are given “dates of death” . It is often said that if you have sickle cell you will die at 2 years, before 5 years, before 10 years, before 20 years ,or before some year.

My mother named me “Tusuubira ” which means “we hope” as a way of instilling hope in herself and those around her that I would not die to become a statistic like 90% of the other babies born to Sickle Cell in Uganda who don’t make it past their 5th birthday.

This “hope” has been my driving force to make change in the way people perceive Sickle Cell and those living with it through Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation

I hope that you will join me in this fight against sickle cell disease in Uganda, Africa and the world at large.
